Mike Norvell 'very confident' in how FSU has prepared for Week 0 trip to Dublin
Florida State gets a unique and early start to the college football season next Saturday in Week 0. Facing off against Georgia Tech in a conference matchup taking place across the pond in Dublin, Ireland at Aviva Stadium.
Plenty of affairs had to be placed in order for the Seminoles ahead of their journey, which head coach Mike Norvell detailed in a recent appearance on the Gojo and Golic show.
“It’s been probably a year and a half process to prepare everything,” Norvell revealed. “We’ve had multiple advanced trips, I got a chance to go out there over spring break to do some promos for the game, but also get a sense of the logistics of what that’s going to look like.”
In the past two college football seasons teams have squared off in Aviva Stadium, the home of Leinster Rugby and the Lansdowne Football Club. And between those experiences and the NFL having several games in London and other cities in Europe, Norvell has been doing all he can to make sure nothing unexpected stands in front of the Seminoles and a win in the Emerald Isle.
“A lot of research from your past coaches and teams that have been a part of it. You talk a lot with the games in Europe there in the NFL, we got a couple guys on staff that have been a part of that as well,” Norvell explained. “So just trying to make sure that everything we do is going to put our players in a position to go be their best.”

Between time changes and the other small details involved with travel, Florida State will definitely have to adapt on the fly heading into Week 0. But at the end of the day, their matchup against Georgia Tech will be decided on the field in between the white lines.
“There are some unique dynamics to this trip, but I feel really good about the team that we have. All the work that’s gone into that from the administration to our operations staff. I mean they’ve done a remarkable job and definitely feel very confident in how we’ll be able to transition over even though we’re having to go nine hours away, but I feel very confident in how smoothly that will transition,” Norvell concluded.
Florida State and Georgia Tech square off on August 24 at noon ET in a Aer Lingus College Football Classic game airing on ESPN.
