Florida Senator Rick Scott sends letter to Boo Corrigan after Florida State misses on CFP
Florida Senator Rick Scott sent a letter to College Football Playoff chairman Boo Corrigan in light of Florida State missing out on the CFP.
The Seminoles finished undefeated and won the ACC over the weekend, despite not having quarterback Jordan Travis who was lost for the season. However, the committee elected Alabama for the No. 4 spot rather than FSU.
The letter from Senator Scott to Corrigan can be read below.
“BREAKING: I am demanding answers and transparency from the @CFBPlayoff Selection Committee following its unprecedented exclusion of @FSUFootball from the playoffs,” Scott wrote on Twitter.
Scott cited not just football reasons, but financial amid the exclusion of Florida State.
“Beyond the fury and heartbreak caused by the Committee’s decision, there are also financial implications that must be discussed,” Scott wrote in his letter, in part. “The ACC and FSU have been denied $2 million of revenue distribution from the CFP due to the Committee’s decision to remove the Seminoles from playoff contention.
“While this is a significant amount of money, it is just a fraction of the total economic impact that playoff contention would have created for (Florida State). Beyond the benefit to the university and its athletic program, the Committee’s decision will also likely have profound impacts on the future earnings and opportunities for the players.”

Head coach Mike Norvell was not pleased whatsoever when it came to Florida State’s exclusion from the College Football Playoff.
Athletic director Michael Alford echoed everyone’s comments listed above.
“The consequences of giving in to a narrative of the moment are destructive, far reaching, and permanent. Not just for Florida State, but college football as a whole,” Alford said in part. “The argument of whether a team is the ‘most deserving OR best’ is a false equivalence. It renders the season up to yesterday irrelevant and significantly damages the legitimacy of the College Football Playoff. The 2023 Florida State Seminoles are the epitome of a total TEAM.
“To eliminate them from a chance to compete for a national championship is an unwarranted injustice that shows complete disregard and disrespect for their performance and accomplishments. It is unforgiveable.”
Florida State will play in the Orange Bowl against Georgia as its consolation prize. Although, Seminoles’ fans can hardly be happy at a New Year’s Six Bowl considering the playoff implications.
