Florida State pitcher Kathryn Sandercock pitches perfect game to lift Seminoles to Super Regionals
Florida State pitcher Kathryn Sandercock has carried the Seminoles on her back for much of the past few seasons. She did it again on Sunday afternoon on a big stage, pitching a perfect game against the South Carolina Gamecocks in the NCAA Tournament. In seven innings, she pitched five strikeouts, and didn’t allow any hits or walks. Her impressive performance was crucial in lifting the Seminoles to a 1-0 victory over the Gamecocks. The big win punched the Seminoles’ tickets to the Super Regionals in this year’s NCAA Tournament.

The Seminoles are out to avenge their early exit from last year’s NCAA Tournament, when they fell to the Mississippi State Bulldogs in the Regional Final. This year, the Seminoles earned a No. 3 overall seed in the 2023 NCAA Softball Tournament.
Sandercock won 2023 ACC Pitcher of the Year honors after firing 92 strikeouts this season. She also had an ERA of 1.16. She played a critical role in guiding the Seminoles to a 50-8 overall record this year and a 2023 ACC Tournament title.

In the 2023 NCAA Regional, the Seminoles also defeated the Marist Red Foxes (9-0) and the UCF Knights (5-1). Then after Sunday’s victory they punched their tickets to the Super Regionals, where they will face the No. 14 seed Georgia Bulldogs in a best of three series.
Sandercock recently talked about how her team felt about going down early to Mississippi State in the Regional Final of the 2022 NCAA Softball Tournament, after her team compiled an impressive 54-7 overall record in the 2022 campaign. She discussed the heartbreaking exit and how her teammates were able to bounce back from it.
“Yeah, I think coming off of the Mississippi State loss last year was tough. But I think that we learned a lot from it. That was the first thing we did when we got back this season was watch that game and took what we could from it to go into this season. We didn’t just sweep it under the rug. We learned from it, and I think that it’s made this team better,” Sandercock said.
