Report: Two dead, six injured in mass shooting event at Florida State campus

Two people were killed in a shooting on the Florida State University campus Thursday, according to local law enforcement. Six others were injured and are being treated.
Florida State University announced law enforcement have “neutralized the threat” in an status alert update posted shortly before 3:30 pm ET, and individuals are “free to move about other areas of campus” not within the active crime scene around the Student Union building.
“Talking to a source, they believe two are dead so far, there may be more,” CNN reporter Ryan Young reported just after 2 pm ET. “These numbers are changing so we want to be very cautious about how we present this.”
Young also reported three weapons connected to the suspected shooter currently in police custody have been found: a handgun on the suspected shooter, a shotgun inside the Student Union and another gun found in what is believed to be the shooter’s vehicle, per CNN.
The university issued an active shooter alert for the Tallahassee campus just after noon ET.
Details on the injuries to those admitted to Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare were not provided according to a spokesperson, per NBC News. The hospital is still “receiving and caring for patients” from the reported shooting at FSU.
“At this time, details are still unfolding, and we do not yet have specific information to share,” the Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare representative told NBC News. “However, we want to assure the community that our teams are fully mobilized and prepared to provide the highest level of care and support to all those affected.”
There were allegedly more than 30 shots fired at the Student Union and local media sources suggest there are multiple casualties, according to Crown Intelligence Group’s X/Twitter account. That has yet to be confirmed by local law enforcement.

A video posted to X/Twitter by FSU meteorology student Garrett Harvey showed people running away form the Student Union across Tennessee Street.
The university has canceled all classes for the rest of the day Thursday and asks students to avoid campus, according to NBC News.
“Individuals not already on the main campus at this time should avoid coming to the Tallahassee main campus,” the school said on its advisory website.
The FBI has confirmed it is responding to the scene at FSU, a bureau spokesperson told NBC’s Tom Winter. The FBI has an office in Tallahassee that is connected to a larger office in Jacksonville. Agents from both locations are either on-scene or en-route, per Winter.
The university activated its emergency notification system, instructing students and staff to lock all doors, stay away from windows and await further instructions. The situation remains active and ongoing.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information is available.
