Mike Norvell on Jordan Travis, who will start at quarterback for FSU this week
While Jordan Travis started for Florida State, McKenzie Milton stole the spotlight by the end of the night. While it may have been his backup leading the charge at the end of the game, Travis still made some plays that vindicated Mike Norvell’s decision to start him.
Following the game, Norvell gave his thoughts on Travis’ play during his post-game press conference.
“I think Jordan had a great camp. He’s continuing to grow and improve in all phases,” said Norvell. “Tonight, I thought there was some good, and some things he’s got to learn from. There’s a couple decisions I know that he wanted to have back. But also, at the end of the day he hit some plays where he was able to do some things with his arms and his legs that were really impressive.”
First, the good included a 60-yard dime to Ja’Khi Douglas that went for a touchdown. Also, Travis scored on a bootleg from the two-yard line, beating a Notre Dame defender to the pylon,
While Travis was responsible for three touchdowns, he also turned the ball over three times. Untimely interceptions and ill-advised throws from Travis put Florida State in a hole.
“I’m excited about Jordan Travis.”
While Travis did some good, Milton came in and led the Seminoles to an electrifying comeback. While it fell short, it showed the poise, mettle and skill that the former UCF quarterback still possesses.
Moving forward, Norvell was asked if Travis will remain the starter, or if Milton has earned the job.

“We’re always going to continue to compete and continue to work together,” said Norvell. “I’m excited about that quarterback room and I’m excited about Jordan Travis and who he is as a player. We’re going to continue to push forward there together, and face all that stuff as we get into this week.”
Evidently, Norvell will play his cards close to the vest once again when it comes to his quarterback room this week. The team waited as long as possible to name Travis the starter last night, and now nothing is guaranteed for next week’s matchup against Jacksonville State.
While Travis received the honor of being named the starter, Milton’s impressive play has put questions at the forefront of the debate. After replacing Travis, Milton completed five of seven passes, accumulating 48-yards and leading drives that tied the game.
While Florida State wasn’t able to upset Notre Dame, they pushed the Fighting Irish to their limit. Whether it’s Jordan Travis or McKenzie Milton starting, Mike Norvell’s team has a chance to compete in the ACC if last night’s game is any indication.
