After finishing just outside the top 10 in the 2024 On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings, Mike Norvell and Florida State are once again gunning for an elite recruiting class, this time in the 2025 cycle.

The December signing period is still a ways away, but things are looking good so far for the Seminoles. FSU currently checks in with the No. 11 class in the nation — which is also good for the No. 1 class in the state of Florida and the No. 2 class in the ACC.

Only four prospects are committed to Norvell and his staff thus far, but three of the pledges are blue-chip (four and five-star) recruits and all four hail from The Sunshine State.

Florida State Class Breakdown

The quartet of FSU commits are split on offense and defense. The current headliner in the class is Jacksonville Raines five-star interior offensive lineman Solomon Thomas — who ranks No. 20 overall in the On3 Industry Ranking.

“I wanted to make the decision for a good little minute now,” Thomas told Warchant after his December commitment. “I actually wanted to commit the day after they had said that Florida State wasn’t going to go to the playoffs, which I was kind of upset about because I was rooting for them. … It hurt me, so I was like, ‘OK, I’m gonna make it to where they can’t count us out again.”

On the offensive side, Thomas is flanked by Jacksonville Mandarin three-star quarterback Tramell Jones. The 6-foot, 185-pound signal-caller may be just the No. 32 QB in the cycle, but his stock has continued to rise since his pledge to FSU in April 2023.

On defense, Cocoa four-star EDGE Javion Hilson is a former Alabama pledge who joined the fold in Tallahassee in January following the retirement of Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban. He is a top-50 overall recruit. Sanford Seminole four-star linebacker Ethan Pritchard is also committed to FSU and is the No. 35 player at his position.

Top FSU Offensive Commit: IOL Solomon Thomas

The 6-foot-4, 315-pound Thomas opted to commit to Florida State on Dec. 22, providing a centerpiece pledge to the Noles’ class. He’s the top-ranked IOL in the cycle, as well as the No. 2 player in Florida.

On3’s Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons provided an update on the recruitment of Thomas earlier this year:

Solomon Thomas is going to take visits, but he is strong with his commitment to Florida State. Communication with Mike Norvell and Alex Atkins is strong and everything is transparent. The relationships keep Thomas locked in with the Seminoles. Florida, LSU, Miami and some others remain in contact with the Jacksonville Raines offensive tackle, but he will be hard to get away from Florida State.”

Top FSU Defensive Commit: EDGE Javion Hilson

The Seminoles are one of the programs that was provided a major boost via the retirement of Saban. Hilson was quick to find a new home with FSU and will now help keep the class high atop the recruiting rankings as the No. 42 overall prospect, No. 3 EDGE and No. 5 player in Florida.

Hilson told On3’s Hayes Fawcett this upon flipping his commitment:

“I like the atmosphere and the fan base. My dad is a big Florida State fan and I grew up watching them and it’s close to home. I am a Florida boy and they’ve been recruiting me the heaviest ever since I committed to Alabama. Also, I can fit the best in their defense 4-2-5 as a true defensive end.”
