Florida State landed the biggest commitment of the Mike Norvell era Monday afternoon as Moultrie (Ga.) Colquitt County five-star tight end Landen Thomas announced that he had flipped his commitment from Georgia to Florida State.

Thomas’ pledge elevated the Seminoles’ 2024 recruiting class to No. 5 in the 2024 On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. Florida State’s group, which also ranks No. 1 in the ACC, rose four spots from No. 9.

The 6-foot-4, 238-pounder is the No. 20 overall prospect and No. 1 tight end in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 5 player in Georgia.

Coleman had originally committed to Florida State in April 2021 but broke broke off of that commitment six months later. He would go on to commit to Georgia last July.

Thomas returned to Tallahassee in January for one of the Seminoles’ Junior Day events. He was back campus on April 6 and was back again on Saturday choosing to go to Florida State’s spring game over Georgia’s.

He told Warchant that even though he decommitted from Florida State well over a year ago, he remained close with Florida State tight ends coach Chris Thomsen and the rest of the Seminoles coaching staff.

Seeing what Florida State was able to accomplish last season and the relationships he was able to keep with the staff, he told Warchant’s Matt LaSerre that he felt comfortable being back in Tallahassee on his last visit and that he felt at home.

“I think overall the team is coming together, putting all the pieces together,’ Thomas told On3 following the spring game. “That’s why they are trending up in the right direction. They get better and better every year.”

Thomas the gem in a Florida State’s star-studded class

Norvell and co. signed 18 players during the 2023 recruiting cycle with a class that finished No. 20 nationally and No. 3 in the Acc.

Of the 18 players they signed in that cycle, only one was ranked as a top-100 prospect in four-star wide receiver Hykeem Williams. With Thomas’ commitment, the Seminoles’ 2024 class now has three players ranked in the top-100 and all three are on the offensive side of the ball.

Four-star running back Kameron Davis announced his commitment to the Seminoles last February and is ranked as the No. 44 prospect in the country. Florida State also picked up a commitment from their quarterback of the future in four-star quarterback Luke Kromenhoek, the No. 85 player in the country.

Florida State’s eight other commitments are four-star wide receivers Tawaski Abrams, Lawayne McCoy and BJ Gibson, three-star wide receiver Camdon Frier, three-star safety CJ Heard, three-star linebacker Jayden Parrish, three-star defensive lineman Jamorie Flagg and three-star kicker Jake Weinberg.
