Florida State TE Kyle Morlock shares biggest adjustment to Power Five football
New Florida State tight end Kyle Morlock was one of the most intriguing tight end prospects in the transfer portal. A 6-foot-7 pass catcher out of Division II Shorter, Morlock was a big pickup for Mike Norvell and the Semnoles.
Morlock talked recently about the adjustments he is making and expecting to make going from the Division II level to the ACC.
“Obviously the speed of the game is going to pick up going to a higher level,” Morlock said. “Bigger, faster, stronger kids but at the end of the day, I’m still playing football and still doing what I was doing. So I think just learning the speed as we progress through spring and into the fall is going to be the biggest thing for me.”
Adjusting to the speed of the game is something Morlock is focused on heading into his first season of Power Five football.
But he also said he’s getting used to it.
“I’d say it’s a different speed for sure” Morlock said. “Coach Norvell’s a super upbeat guy, which I love to see. He’s brings the same energy every day. As far as acclamation, it’s a different speed but I’m getting used to it every day that I’m here.”

Kyle Morlock is one of multiple high-end Florida State transfers
Florida State did an excellent job in the transfer portal, and Kyle Morlock is just one of the players that made its class so good.
In addition to Morlock, the Seminoles landed offensive tackle Jeremiah Byers, cornerback Fentrell Cypress, defensive tackle Braden Fiske and defensive tackle Darrell Jackson.
On3’s Mike Huguenin named the group the top transfer portal class of the cycle.
“FSU figures to open the 2023 season as the ACC favorite, and Norvell’s work in the portal (last year and this year) is a big reason,” Huguenin said. “He and his staff brought in as many as six starters this year, with Byers perhaps the crown jewel. He figures as an immediate starter. Fiske and Jackson (assuming he gets a waiver from the NCAA, which seems a mere formality) will be part of an experienced and talented quartet at defensive tackle.:
