At one point in the first half of Thursday’s game, Florida State trailed Notre Dame by 15 points. The Seminoles erased that deficit and took a lead – and, eventually, upset the No. 3-ranked Fighting Irish.

FSU engineered the comeback after going down 29-14 at one point in the second quarter. The Seminoles flipped the script, outscoring the Fighting Irish 30-17 in the second period to take a 44-40 lead into the locker room. That advantage grew to 67-57 heading into the final five minutes.

Notre Dame started to mount a charge, though, as the fourth quarter got started. But Florida State fought off the late surge to eventually come away with a huge ACC victory with the conference tournament quickly approaching.

Thursday’s win marked FSU’s first-ever victory in South Bend at Purcell Pavilion. Couple it with a win over Georgia Tech last time out, and the Seminoles also recorded back-to-back wins against AP Top 25 programs for the first time in program history.

Ta’Niya Latson led the way for Florida State with 23 points and nine assists while Makayla Timpson added 22 points. As a group, the Seminoles shot 42.3% from the field, including a 50% clip in the second half to complete the come-from-behind victory.

On the Notre Dame side, Sonia Citron had a team-high 21 points, including some shots in the fourth quarter to keep the Fighting Irish in striking distance before Florida State pulled away. Liatu King added 17 points and 11 rebounds, and Hannah Hidalgo had 16 points.

Thursday’s game marked Notre Dame’s second consecutive loss, marking the first such instance this season. It comes after NC State snapped the Fighting Irish’s 19-game winning streak in a 2OT thriller last time out, and they’re now 24-4 on the season heading into the season finale against Louisville.

That game is going to be even more important if Notre Dame wants to win the ACC regular-season title. It’s now tied with NC State atop the conference standings, and they’re two games ahead of second-place Louisville, Florida State, North Carolina and Duke.

FSU is also playing for seeding in the tournament. The Seminoles will welcome Duke on Sunday as they look to secure a double-bye in Greensboro when the tournament gets underway next week.
