Florida State wide receiver Winston Wright no longer with football team
FSU WR Winston Wright hadn’t seen any action for the Seminoles over the past four weeks. Now, he won’t be seeing any more period based on the latest on his status out of Tallahassee.
Per Warchant, Wright is no longer a member of Florida State’s football team. The site has not yet shared a reason as to why that’s the case but more updates are likely soon to follow with this surprising news.
Wright was in his second season with Florida State but his first being available for the Seminoles. After transferring in last year, he was injured in a car accident that took him out for the entire season.
In his two appearances with FSU this fall, Wright caught four passes for 36 yards.
Before coming to Tallahassee, Wright started his career in Morgantown with West Virginia. In his three seasons as a Mountaineer, he made 129 catches for 1,338 yards and seven touchdowns. That was good for a two-time leader for the program in receptions in 2020 and 2021.
Wright was a three-star prospect and a Top-150 WR back in the 2019 class per On3’s Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. Out of Memorial Day School as a native of Savannah, Georgia, he was a Top-100 recruit in the state in that cycle.
Florida State is set at receiver with several top pass-catching options. Still, a loss is a loss, especially when it’s a player with five years of experience under his belt like Wright.

Johnny Wilson sends message to fans after leaving game with injury
Florida State WR Johnny Wilson seems to be in good spirits after leaving Saturday’s game against Virginia Tech with an injury. Wilson went down on the first play of the second half in an eventual 39-17 win and did not return.
Wilson stayed down for a number of minutes and needed assistant from the Seminoles medical staff in getting off the field. He was taken back to the locker room for further evaluation. However, the redshirt junior took to Twitter following the game to offer a positive update on how he is feeling.
“I’m straight! Love these boys man!” he wrote.
Wilson is a valuable member of the Seminoles receiving corps, so Florida State will hope the injury isn’t long-term. He still ended up leading the team in receiving on Saturday despite not playing most of the second half, finishing with four catches for 54 yards and two touchdowns.
Redshirt junior Kentron Poitier replaced Wilson, making his first appearance of the season since the opener against LSU. He did not record any stats.
