Florida State baseball has announced that Seth Maness, a former MLB pitcher, will join the FSU coaching staff. Link Jarrett is adding him as a graduate assistant.

Since he left MLB, Seth Maness has worked in the college game. His most recent role was Coordinator of Player Development at UNC Wilmington. He now takes that expertise to Link Jarrett’s staff, where he will help the FSU pitchers in things like workouts, practice, and scouting.

During his five seasons in the majors, Seth Maness pitched for the Kansas City Royals and St. Louis Cardinals. Maness played his college baseball at ECU, where he was a four-time All-Conference USA pitcher. During summers he played in the Cape Cod League, before being drafted and signing with the Cardinals in 2011. During his rookie season, Seth Maness helped the Cardinals reach the World Series, where they fell to the Boston Red Sox. He now brings his experience and expertise to FSU.

Link Jarrett was an assistant coach on Seth Maness’ ECU team, before becoming a head coach and ultimately ending up at FSU. That connection is what has helped lead Maness to Tallahassee as he begins his own coaching career.

“Throughout his recruitment I quickly realized how talented Seth was as a pitcher and infielder,” Jarrett said. “He showed phenomenal instincts for the game and savvy on the mound. At East Carolina, he quickly evolved into one of college baseball’s most elite pitchers where his competitiveness and dedication to his teams was second to none.”

“It was awesome to follow his outstanding career in the big leagues, which was so well deserved. He will be quite the addition to our program,” Jarrett said of how Maness will help FSU.

Jarrett is still putting together his staff at FSU and more additions are likely to occur in the near future. Until then, adding assistants like Maness will only help the program going forward.
