As we head into November, everyone is going to start splitting hairs between the best teams in the country to decide which ones are the cream of the crop. However, at this point, Greg McElroy has already made his pick with Florida State holding his No. 1 resume.

McElroy explained his reasoning during an episode of ‘Always College Football’ this week. In his eyes, FSU has two great wins and two good wins on their 7-0 record which gave them the bump over Ohio State, Oklahoma, Georgia, and Washington in his top-five.

“In at number one, the best resume in college football? The Florida State Seminoles,” McElroy stated.

“They have two great wins by our estimation. That would be week one against 6-2, currently ranked No. 15 LSU45-24, completely routed them in the second half. And week eight against the 5-2, currently ranked No. 20 Duke Blue Devils. It was a convincing fourth-quarter performance,” explained McElroy. “They also have a good win at their disposal on the road at 4-3 Clemson. You could say, ‘Well, Clemson is not a good win?’. It wasn’t at the time, sure, but we’re not going to give credit for those at the time. We qualify good teams as teams at 4-3 or better in a Power Five league. So, Clemson is a good win. Guess what else is? Week seven against Syracusea convincing 41-3 victory.”

Florida State has passed every test that has come across their desk so far. That includes their opener against LSU in dominant fashion and in comeback fashion at Clemson over their first four weeks. Add in their latest victory over Duke and their undefeated mark overall and in the ACC looks pretty great as we close October.

To be fair, though, hindsight was not kind to McElroy’s point regarding Syracuse. A 38-point margin is a clear-cut victory but, following the Orange’s 38-10 loss at Virginia Tech on Thursday night, they no longer meet his threshold for a good team at over .500. It’s worth noting but, nonetheless, doesn’t take much away from Florida State.

With four or so wins of the quality variety on their resume, McElroy believes they could have shots at two more with what’s left on their schedule plus a very likely trip to the ACC Championship. Still, just at this moment, it’s fairly clear why he has the Seminoles at the top of the top when it comes to the boxes they’ve checked.

“Now, they have a couple of notable games upcoming against 5-2 Miami and on the road at 5-2 Florida,” said McElroy. “But, right now, based on what they’ve accomplished up to this point? The best resume in college football is the Florida State Seminoles.”
