Former Florida State star quarterback Jameis Winston is the guest of honor for Saturday night’s contest against North Alabama. But upon his arrival, Winston was showing some love to the Seminoles’ current star signal caller, Jordan Travis.

Week 12’s game against North Alabama will be Florida State’s final home game of the season. It will also serve as Senior Day for the Seminoles’ departing players. Not only that, but the Florida State athletic department has elected to honor Winston Saturday night, retiring his jersey, making this weekend a special occasion for Seminoles fans and players of both the past and present.

To celebrate the present, Winston showed up wearing Travis’s jersey, supporting the quarterback, who has a chance to join him as a national champion by the end of this season. You can check out Winston’s arrival in the video below.

Travis and Florida State have a legitimate chance at the national championship this season, as they are currently one of four teams slotted in the College Football Playoff. Should they finish the regular season undefeated and with a win over Louisville in the ACC championship game, The Seminoles will have punched their ticket into the CFP, giving Travis and the 2023 team an opportunity to etch their names into the Florida State history books.

Florida State to retire Winston’s jersey

Winston will have his jersey retired during the first quarter of Saturday’s home game against North Alabamathe program announced on Thursday.

Winston helped lead Florida State to a 14-0 record and a BCS national championship over Auburn in 2013.

“The retirement of Jameis’ jersey will certainly be a great event on our campus,” Florida State athletics director Michael Alford said. “He had a huge impact on Florida State football, and his place as one of our all-time greats is unquestioned. I know we all look forward to seeing his No. 5 becoming a permanent part of Doak Campbell Stadium.”

Jameis Winston arrived at Florida State as a star prospect and did not disappoint, quickly making his mark.

He became the first freshman ever to win the ACC Player of the Year honors after he had a season with 40 touchdown passes and 4,057 passing yards. Florida State’s remarkable run resulted in the program’s third national title.

And Winston was back as a sophomore to follow up in 2014.

He was a little more up and down, throwing for 3,907 yards with 25 touchdowns against 18 interceptions. Still, Florida State managed to reach the College Football Playoffs for the first time ever, losing in the semifinal to Oregon.

Jameis Winston left school early to become the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. By the time he did he had racked up scores of accolades in college.
