Florida State capped the year in style, knocking off in-state rival Florida to reach nine regular-season wins in their third year in coach Mike Norvell‘s system. It was the winningest regular-season for the program since Jimbo Fisher‘s penultimate season in charge in 2016.

The offensive buy-in was apparent on the field all season, and despite surrendering a season-high 38 points against the Gators, the Seminoles were also quite good defensively.

“I kind of knew what was going to happen, just with the growth of the team, with the growth of the coaches and just getting that relationship,” defensive back Jammie Robinson said. “Just trusting them.”

Florida State’s defense finished No. 14 nationally in total defense, allowing just 307.2 yards per contest, while also finishing No. 17 nationally in scoring defense, giving up 19.7 points per game.

Above and beyond scheme, Robinson noted it was the team’s belief in what Norvell and his staff have brought from a culture standpoint. With a shared vision, the Seminoles have made tangible progress in each season in Mike Norvell’s system.

“At the end of the day you’ve got to be able to run through a wall for your coach, and you’ve got to trust in them, and he going to trust in you the same way,” Robinson said.

Florida State can reach double-digit wins

With a bowl game on tap, Florida State could reach 10 wins for the first time since that 2016 season. It’s been a rough few years, but the Seminoles are seeing their hard work and belief pay off.

Listen to veterans like Robinson and it doesn’t sound like they even had any doubt this is where things were headed thanks to the buy-in.

“I just feel like through the year and the two years (before), that’s what happened,” Robinson said. “Everyone bought in, everyone came together, the leaders led and the followers, they followed. Eventually that’s how a team’s supposed to be. That’s what happened this year.”

Florida State will learn its bowl destination on Selection Day on Sunday, with a selection show beginning at 12 p.m. ET on ESPN.
