Jaxson West discusses being 1st Seminole with 4 hits in MCWS game since Buster Posey, Tennessee rematch
Florida State stayed alive at the 2024 Men’s College World Series with an elimination game win over North Carolina, 9-5, on Tuesday afternoon. That was in no small part due to the performance from catcher Jaxson West.
Batting ninth and marshaling the defense from behind home plate, West produced four hits and two RBI in the win. After the fact, he demurred about his offensive performance.

“Oh man, I got the best hitters in the country at the top of the lineup so I’m just trying to get on base for them and set the table so the fact I was able to do that, I’m pleased with that,” West said. “I’m not worried about statistics. I’m just worried about getting on base for those guys.”
However in the late innings, it was West providing some pop with a solo home run — followed by another from leadoff hitter Max Williams — that pushed the Seminoles lead to four runs in the top of the 9th inning.
West also matched a feat — a four-hit game at the College World Series — that a Florida State player hasn’t achieved since the legendary Buster Posey did it in 2008.

After the fact, though, he shared that his own accolades don’t matter that much to him.
“All I want to do is win for this university. For my family and for these guys especially. That’s just all I want to do, is win. And I’m just happy we go the W today,” West said.
With the win, Florida State is set up for a rematch with Tennessee days removed from the Volunteers comeback and walkoff win. The Seminoles will need two wins over Tennessee to advance to the championship series, while the Vols will need just a single victory.
But for West and the Seminoles, that’s just fine.
“We’re not worried about anybody but ourselves, we’re just trying to stay in the moment and enjoy being together and we’re the best team in the country when our back’s against the wall, so we’ve got that going into it,” West said.
