Jeremiah Byers gives first impression of Florida State practice
First-team All-Conference USA selection Jeremiah Byers has played some high-level football, but he was blown away by his first impression of Florida State practice after arriving on campus.
He transferred in from UTEP and immediately saw a difference in how things are run.
“What I was impressed by the most was just the work of the team,” Byers said. “When it came to practice it was never like a dull moment. It was never a moment in practice where it was just like, ‘OK, we’re just going to sit around and chill.'”
Byers was a first-team All-Conference USA selection for the Miners in 2022, after being an honorable mention selection in 2021 and a Conference USA All-Freshman Team selection in 2020.
He made 30 starts for the Miners in four playing seasons.
Even so, he was impressed by the Florida State practices. The tone was set from jump, and he recalled vividly something offensive coordinator Alex Atkins said.

“Coach Atkins said something at the second practice I was in, he said that, ‘Every day out here is a performance. This isn’t given to you,'” Byers explained. “‘So if you’re not performing, I will put you on the scout team, regardless of who you are.’ That’s what stood out to me, just willing to accept that challenge in order to be successful.”
