Week 4 Picks with Barstool's Kayce Smith: Florida State at Clemson

Tallahassee has been on a bit of a roller coaster to start Florida State’s season. That’s why, to FOX Sports’ Joel Klatt, their fanbase should be feeling a little nervy with their road trip to Clemson on deck.

Klatt spoke about the feeling of the Seminoles’ fanbase on his show on Wednesday. From the peak of popping LSU under a national spotlight in their opener to the valley of nearly losing to Boston College last weekend, he thinks their current Jekyll and Hyde state shouldn’t inspire too much confidence after three weeks of games.

“I would be very anxious if I was Florida State, very anxious because of the way the season has gone,” Klatt said. “I’m anxious if I’m a Florida State fan because you took me up really high with a dominant second half against LSU, which all of us praised and rightly so. And then you kind of took us down like a roller coaster ride and took us all the way down to, like, ‘Can we beat BC? Like, please?’, even when BC had every opportunity in the world to win that game.”

Klatt’s point is further underlined by urgency considering Florida State’s next contest. After beating LSU in Orlando and watching Clemson lose to Duke, they felt right as rain about that ACC battle. Now, after dodging a bullet in Chestnut Hill, the sledding may not be as smooth as they’d hoped.

“On the high part, I thought to myself, if I’m an FSU fan, ‘We’re fine at Clemson! We got Clemson, we’re clearly the best team in the ACC, we’re a playoff contender,'” said Klatt. “Now? We went down the roller coaster, we barely won at Boston College. And I’m thinking to myself, like, ‘Oh, now I’ve got a lot of anxiety about going to Death Valley, a place that we basically don’t win (at)‘. That’s why I’m anxious.”

For Klatt, the question is now determining which of the Florida States that we’ve seen is the actual one. The answer to that will determine whether the Seminoles should be prepared or nervous for their conference clash inside Memorial Stadium this weekend.

“Which is the real Florida State? Which is the one that I’m going to get?” Klatt said. “‘Noles fans? This is kind of like an ‘oh crap’ feeling. ‘Ohhh crap. We thought this was going to be a lot easier than now it’s turning out to be. Now I’m anxious. We’ve got to go face Clemson and what I thought was going to be an easy win? I don’t really know now based on the performance last week.'”
