Johnny Wilson is making an impact on Florida State offense early in Fall Camp
Johnny Wilson transferred into the Florida State football program following Arizona State‘s regular season – and has made a name for himself inside the wide receivers room since arriving on campus. With fall camp underway, head coach Mike Norvell discussed how excited he is for Wilson to suit up in a Seminoles uniform.
“He’s definitely a weapon. With his size, speed, the ability to bend. Anybody can see a big receiver come by and say, ‘Oh,’ but watch him run routes,” Norvell said about the Sun Devils transfer. “To watch the work that he’s putting in is really impressive, and I’m excited about that group.
“I remember when he first got here in the spring, it was probably a little eye opening for the just the [new] approach, and I think he’s embraced that. He’s moving really well. He’s been able to play a lot of snaps and play at a high level. That last drive today [at training camp] really, I thought illustrated that and how he was able to continue to perform at high level with multiple snaps down.”
Wilson was a four-star recruit in the 2020 class, ranking as the No. 304 overall player according to On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

The Seminoles offered him out of high school, as did Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan and many others. However, the California native decided to stay close to home and attend Arizona State as the highest-rated recruit for the Sun Devils in their 2020 class.
He played seven games with the Sun Devils in his first two years, recording 18 catches for 243 yards and a touchdown. His first career score came early this season against UNLV. He also set a career-high in yards with 70 against Colorado on Sept. 25.
Standing at 6-foot-6, Wilson has the ability to be the No. 1. receiver in the Seminoles lineup, as there was no clear standout from last year’s wide receiving core. Redshirt junior Ontaria Wilson led the team with 23 catches for 382 yards and five touchdowns, meaning Wilson will be integral to the Seminoles’ offensive efforts in 2022.
