Florida State brought in 2021 wide receiver recruit Destyn Hill into the program this offseason after a near three-year delay in his arrival due to undisclosed personal reasons.

Seminoles star quarterback Jordan Travis, who works with Hill every day at practice, revealed his first impression of the incoming freshman and how he can impact the team in year one.

“He’s a hard worker. That’s the first impression I had of him,” Travis told Warchant TV at the Manning Passing Academy last month. “He works hard and that’s the most important thing. He’s a good person like I always talk about and he is a special player.”

Florida State head coach Mike Norvell previously said that Hill is the type of player that “wants it all,” but needs to trust the process and take his college career one step at a time — especially after being sidelined from football for nearly three years.

Norvell said that he has been keeping close contact with those inside the 2021 signee’s inner circle. Now, on Hill’s part, the anticipation of finally suiting up in a Florida State uniform continues to build as he hopes to pick back up where he left off at the preps ranks.

“One of the things that makes him special is the sense of urgency that he brings, the intensity in how he plays and the way he prepares,” Norvell said during the ACC spring meetings. “He’s been working for a long time, preparing to get here and be ready to make an impact. I told him to trust the process, come in and work every day to be his best.”

Hill was a four-star recruit when he signed with Florida State out of Edna Karr High School in 2021, per the On3 Industry Rankings, a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services. He was the No. 112 player in the class and No. 18 overall wide receiver.

During his preps career, Hill caught 54 passes for over 1,000 yards and 14 touchdowns during his breakout 2019 junior season. In 2020, he followed that up with 38 catches — 15 of which went into the end zone.

Still, it’s been 34 months since Hill’s last football game. There will be a learning curve as he adjusts to the college game, but Norvell is expecting him to catch on just fine as the offseason bleeds into summer ball.
