Jordan Travis compares Johnny Wilson to a 'create-a-player on Madden'
Jordan Travis is more than excited to have Johnny Wilson back out wide.
In a pinch, there’s no better option than to chuck the ball deep to the tallest player on the field and hope for the best. If Florida State wants to live up to its massive expectations in 2023, Wilson is going to have to come up big for the Seminoles a time or two this season.
“He is 6’7″ and can jump pretty good. It’s kind of like a cheat code,” Travis said of his teammate at ACC media day. “It’s like a create-a-player on Madden. I would say that. I’m so glad he’s on my team. It makes my job a lot easier.
“Outside of football, Johnny is a tremendous person. Just the way he carries himself every single day is one of a kind. He always has a smile on his face. Not everything is always going well. You know what I mean? It’s life. Not everything is always going well, but no matter what he always has a smile, and he is the same person every day.”
In 2022, Wilson caught 43 passes for 897 yards and five scores, including 8 receptions for 202 yards in the Cheez-It Bowl. Wilson said he was pondering a jump to the NFL, as several teams would undoubtedly have been attracted by his 6-foot-7, 240-pound frame.
With Wilson back in the fold — the Seminoles return six of their top eight wide receivers from 2022 — and Travis is expected to be in elite form with this experienced group.

As the majority of last year’s targets return to the fold — Travis will look to build on his 3,214 passing yards, 24 touchdowns, five interceptions and a 64% completion percentage. He also contributed 417 rushing yards and seven more touchdowns on the ground. As a team, 2022 also saw the Seminoles compile 10 wins in a single season for the first time since 2016.
Winning 10 games is now the benchmark for Mike Norvell’s squad, as the expectations for this Seminole squad are through the roof heading into 2023.
FSU kicks off the new season with a neutral matchup against LSU. Lofty expectations surround both teams this season, and a loss for either team could hurt their postseason chances before their season really even begins. That matchup is set for Sunday, Sept. 3 at 7:30 p.m. ET live on ABC. LSU is a 2.5-point favorite heading into August.
