Jordan Travis opens up on 'special bond' with Keon Coleman

Keon Coleman was one of Florida State’s biggest additions from the transfer portal. The former Michigan State standout has fit in well to Mike Norvell’s offense, and it’s clear he has a strong relationship with Jordan Travis.
During a Thursday appearance on SportsCenter, Travis spoke even further about their “special bond.”
Coleman has put up huge numbers through two games, leading Florida State with 170 yards and four touchdowns. That includes a 122-yard, three-touchdown performance in the season opener against LSU. But it’s what the former Michigan State star does off the field that stands out to Travis.
“We are very blessed to have Key on our team,” Travis told ESPN’s Kevin Negandhi. “I’m so glad he’s on our side of the ball. I always talk about the person before the player. Keon came in to the locker room and just was himself. A very humble kid. He’s a likable person, and we’re so blessed to have him. He always has a smile on his face and his work ethic is really special. It’s second to none.
“He loves the game when it comes to not only on the field, but he’s off the field studying film, studying DBs, all little types of stuff. … Keon and I have a really special bond. I love having people and people with good vibes, and he always has good vibes. So that’s my guy.”

Keon Coleman is living up to the hype at Florida State
Coleman arrived in Tallahassee with plenty of hype after leaving Michigan State. He checked in as the No. 26-ranked transfer to enter the portal during the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Transfer Portal Rankings. It’s clear he’s making an impact on his new teammates early in the season.
Coleman and Travis will try to keep things rolling this week against Boston College in FSU’s ACC opener. The Seminoles cruised past LSU in the opener and blew out Southern Miss last week to get to 2-0 on the young season. Although the box score might not show it, Coleman said the receivers started off a little slow in that matchup.
However, they bounced back, and that could provide some confidence heading into the first conference game.
“We started off kind of slow. I’m going to speak for my receiver room, we started off pretty slow,” Coleman said. “We left some plays out there on the field to be made. But games like that happen. You’ve just got to keep your head up and just keep chopping away at the game and next time the play comes around try to make it.”
