Jordan Travis is Florida State‘s starting quarterback, and everyone else falls in line behind him. With that in mind, he has done all he can to help his fellow QB cohorts improve over the spring slate.
He doesn’t miss fighting for a higher spot on the depth chart, but Travis has enjoyed competing with his teammates on a daily basis.
“I’ve always loved watching those guys grow every single day. I get so much joy out of it — competing with them every single day and being able to walk off the field knowing that they’re my brothers,” Travis said after FSU’s spring game. “But, it’s really special seeing those guys improve every day, not just on the football field but in life and seeing them take that next step, which is important.”
Aside from Travis, Florida State’s quarterback room is comprised of four players — redshirt junior Tate Rodemaker, redshirt freshmen AJ Duffy and Dylan McNamara, and true freshman Brock Glenn.
Heading into summer workouts, Rodemaker will be competing with Duffy for the No. 2 spot on the depth chart. Rodemaker is the odds-on favorite out of the two. Entering his fourth year in Norvell’s offense, he has the most experience out of all the backup quarterbacks.

Last season, the highlight of Rodemaker’s season came during a 35-31 victory over Louisville, which saw Rodemaker pass for 109 yards and two second-half touchdowns. He finished 2022 with 254 total passing yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. According to Seminoles head coach Mike Norvell, Rodemaker’s ability to sense pressure and to read and react is something that has set him apart from the rest.
Even though the starting job is all but locked up, Norvell still gave all three backup QBs first-team reps throughout the spring.
“What are you going to do with it?” Norvell asked out of his quarterbacks during spring training. “Then obviously we still have a lot of time until we kick off in August and fall camp, and then obviously our first game in September. But each of these reps is going to help position that to what it’s going to look like as we get closer to the fall.”
Even though Rodemaker, Duffy or any other QB won’t be making the start for Florida State, if anything were to happen to Travis, they will have to be ready if their number were to be called without any warning.
