Jordan Travis responds to McKenzie Milton return in Florida State vs. Notre Dame
Jordan Travis won the quarterback battle, receiving the honor of starting against Notre Dame for Florida State in the opener. However, McKenzie Milton returned to steal his thunder, and almost steal a victory.
While many wouldn’t be their replacement’s biggest cheerleader, Travis was elated by the play of Milton late in the game. During his postgame press conference, Travis mentioned that his smile never left his face while Milton was on the field.
“That makes me so happy. I couldn’t keep the smile off my face,” said Travis. “Just seeing someone who has been through that much come back and be able to perform that way, to see him run out on the field gave me chills.
“Through thick and thin, he’s been pushing me every single day. Every time I came to the sideline after a bad play today, he was always there picking me up. He’s a great dude and I’m so happy to see him on the field performing. I’m blessed to have him on my team.”
Like everyone in the stands and the millions watching at home, Travis was just a fan witnessing history as Milton returned to the field. While many medical personnel believed it was a sight we would never see again, Milton returned to the field and not only played — he played well.
While Travis was responsible for three touchdowns, he was also responsible for three interceptions. On the other hand, Milton steadied the offense, leading the Seminoles to a game-tying drive late in the fourth quarter.
“I’m excited about Jordan Travis.”
Travis did some good, but Milton’s electrifying comeback is fresh on everyone’s mind. While it fell short, it showed the poise, mettle and skill that the former UCF quarterback still possesses.

Moving forward, Florida State head coach Mike Norvell was asked if Travis will remain the starter, or if Milton has earned the job.
“We’re always going to continue to compete and continue to work together,” said Norvell. “I’m excited about that quarterback room and I’m excited about Jordan Travis and who he is as a player. We’re going to continue to push forward there together, and face all that stuff as we get into this week.”
Evidently, Norvell will play his cards close to the vest once again this week. The team waited as long as possible to name Travis the starter last night, and now nothing is guaranteed for next week’s matchup against Jacksonville State.
While Travis received the honor of being named the starter, Milton’s impressive play has put questions at the forefront of the debate. After replacing Travis, Milton completed five of seven passes, accumulating 48-yards and leading drives that tied the game.
Florida State wasn’t able to upset Notre Dame, but they pushed the Fighting Irish to their limit. Whether it’s Jordan Travis or McKenzie Milton starting, Mike Norvell’s team has a chance to compete in the ACC if last night’s game is any indication.
