Jordan Travis reveals the big takeaways he learned from Manning Passing Academy
Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis learned some valuable lessons this past week at the Manning Passing Academy at Nicholls State University. Gearing up for a big 2023 season in which the Seminoles are projected to contend for an ACC Championship, Travis joined names like Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels and Joe Milton to receive advice from former NFL QBs Peyton and Eli Manning.
Once the camp wrapped up, Travis came away with a lot of useful tips to use both on the field and how to become a better leader off it. He believes that will help him build on the success he had this past season.
“There was a bunch (that I learned),” he said. “They talked to us about pregame stuff and how they go through film. Being a good person. That matters when it comes to earning the respect of your teammates. You never asked for respect, you always earn respect. I learned a lot.”
Peyton and Eli weren’t the people with NFL quarterback experience that Travis learned from at the Manning Passing Academy, however. Free agent quarterback Garrett Gilbert, who most recently played for the New England Patriots last season, was also there.
He offered a different perspective having been a practice squad member for several different teams, and Travis found that just as valuable.
“Garrett Gilbert was in there. He’s had a career where he went everywhere,” Travis said. “He’s been dropped off of a lot of NFL teams and picked up by other ones. Just hearing all their different experiences was really cool.”
Travis helped lead Florida State to its first 10-win season since 2016 this past year as well as a Cheez-It Bowl victory against Oklahoma. He ended the season with 3,214 yards passing, 24 touchdowns and five interceptions while also rushing for 417 yards and seven scores.

Travis’ return, along with that of leading receiver Johnny Wilson, has Seminoles fans excited about what’s in store for this season. The quarterback will hope to use the experience at the Manning Passing Academy to deliver on those expectations when FSU opens the 2023 season against LSU on Sept. 3.
Jordan Travis shared Manning Passing Academy experience with father
Travis didn’t attend the Manning Passing Academy alone, as he also brought his dad along with him. After, Travis shared just how much that experience meant to him.
“It makes me feel really happy,” he said. “I mean, Father’s Day was, what was it, last Sunday? Yeah. I asked my dad on Monday. I knew he would enjoy to come out here and just experience this with me.”
Travis praised his father, saying that he wouldn’t be who he is today without him.
“He made me who I am today. He always pushed me and always supported me, which I’m blessed to have. There’s guys that don’t have a father that’s out there that’s pushing them every step of the way. My dad has been there every step of the way. They don’t miss a game. I’m just so honored and blessed to have him in my life and call him my dad.”
