Florida State will be playing its first bowl game since 2019 when they face off with Oklahoma in the Cheez-It Bowl on Thursday. After a successful 9-3 year, the Seminoles are locked in to this opportunity and are excited to hit the field.

On Monday, QB Jordan Travis went as far as to describe it as ‘a blessing’ for him and his teammates to be in this position. He says it’s a great bowl and that it signifies what the Seminoles accomplished in 2022.

“It’s a blessing, for sure, having an opportunity to come here,” said Travis. “It’s a great bowl game.”

“We were at a bowl game a couple years ago. (And) just seeing how far we’ve come as a football team? The accomplishments we had this year were amazing,” Travis said. “I’m so, so proud of this team. I’m grateful for this team and everybody deserves this.”

Florida State already accomplished one thing this season they hadn’t done since 2017, which was finish with a winning record. However, they’ll have a chance to check something else off the list from that year as this week’s game will be a chance to win their first bowl game since their Independence Bowl victory. That’s why, as they finish their prep for the Sooners this week, Travis is nothing but thankful for the chance to play in this game and get the Seminoles their 10th win this season.

Jared Verse glows over Florida State players not opting out

There has been a growing trend in college football over the last few seasons where players opt out of the bowl game. Typically, they do this to avoid injury ahead of the NFL Draft. However, with the transfer portal, now there are even more players skipping bowls in search of new teams. This hasn’t been the case at Florida State this season, though, which Jared Verse praised the team for.

The question of opt-outs came during a press conference for the Cheez-It Bowl.

“It’s the brotherhood,” Jared Verse said. “Everybody’s like I want another chance to play with my brothers. Nobody’s taking anything for granted.”

“This is the last time this group specifically will ever be together and it’s just really good to kind of come out here, enjoy time with each other, go out, mess around, complain about who got the cheesy room and who don’t–It’s just good to kind of be with everybody again. I don’t think anybody on the roster would give that up.”
