Ole Miss will host Michigan State transfer WR Keon Coleman on Tuesday

Florida State has designs on being a College Football Playoff team in 2023, and the addition of Michigan State receiver Keon Coleman gave an offense that was already pretty good even more firepower.

Coleman will be yet another big target for quarterback Jordan Travis, who returns as a potential Heisman Trophy candidate.

Having the opportunity to play with Travis was one of the key selling points for Florida State when it came to the Coleman recruitment. The big receiver wanted to play in the south and he wanted to play with a quality team.

“Really in the recruitment process there wasn’t much to be said,” Keon Coleman said in his first interview at Florida State. “The tape speaks for itself, really. And everybody wants to play with a great quarterback. He threw some very good things very well and I would love for him to be throwing me the ball too.”

Coleman arrives in Tallahassee, Fla., after going for nearly 800 yards for the Spartans in 2022. Coleman finished his sophomore season with 58 catches for 798 yards and seven touchdowns, emerging as one of the star receivers in the Big Ten.

But his plans were always to get to the south in the latter part of his career, he revealed recently.

Florida State was a natural fit as a team on the rise under coach Mike Norvell. The Seminoles have shown gradual improvement in every year under Novell’s direction, culminating with a 10-win season in 2022.

The goal is to exceed that in 2023, with Travis and company eyeing a trip to the College Football Playoffs. Florida State hasn’t been there since 2014.

Keon Coleman could be a key piece of the puzzle.

“I am excited for Keon Coleman to be joining the Nole Family,” Norvell said in a statement. “He is a productive playmaker who has already showcased his immense talents at the collegiate level. He brings size, speed and an aggressive mindset to our receiver position. He is an ideal fit with our program built for playmakers, and his unique skillset will help us continue to field one of the most explosive offenses in college football.”
