Florida State was down a critical weapon on Saturday against Pittsburgh as Keon Coleman sat out due to injury. It was yet another injury for the Seminoles, who were also without Johnny Wilson in the 24-7 victory.

Afterward, Mike Norvell provided a promising update on Coleman and others who are working through injuries.

Norvell said the former Michigan State star suffered an injury last week against Wake Forest, and although he wanted to get back on the field, the staff decided it’d be best for him to sit out against Pitt. The hope is Coleman will be back “soon,” though, according to Norvell.

“He’s good,” Norvell said. “It’s just unfortunate, in the last game, there was an injury that kept him out from tonight. We’re very hopeful he’ll be back extremely soon. Looking forward to just how it progresses this week.”

Keon Coleman wasn’t the only player out for Florida State against Pitt

As for the other injuries — to Wilson, Hykeem Williams and Deuce Spann — Norvell said they’re coming along. That said, Florida State isn’t going to rush any of them back to game-ready so they can heal up as the Seminoles march toward, hopefully, an ACC Championship berth. They’re also squarely in the mix for the College Football Playoff.

“Johnny being out, that was something that’s just continuing to progress on with both those guys,” Norvell said. “Hykeem Williams is getting better, Deuce Spann will continue to work to get better. We had a laundry list of guys that were dealing with issues there.

“At the end of the day, they’re doing everything in their power to get back on the field, but we’re not going to put them out in position unless they can go out there and play tot he best f their abilities. Excited to see how this next week goes, and you’ll see exactly where it is as we progress towards it.”

Florida State still put together a solid showing even without some of its top playmakers. Jordan Travis had an impressive day, completing 22 of 36 passes for 360 yards and a touchdown to help FSU past Pitt 24-7. Ja’Khi Douglas emerged as Travis’ top target, hauling in six passes for 115 yards.

Next up for FSU is one final ACC game as the Seminoles welcome Miami for a Nov. 11 showdown before wrapping up the year with two non-conference games. At 7-0 in league play, Norvell’s group has its sights set on a conference title game appearance now that the league has done away with divisions.
