Lawrance Toafili shares how this Florida State camp is different than past ones
Florida State running back Lawrance Toafili has been with the program for the entire Mike Norvell era, getting to campus ahead of the 2020 season. Heading into 2023, he’s seen a lot. Now, Toafili has shared how this Fall Camp is unique from others since he’s been on campus.
As Toafili explained, this has been an incredibly competitive camp compared to the ones that he’s been involved in previously.
“This camp, I would say, is very competitive,” Lawrance Toafili said. “We came out, everybody’s just trying to compete and get better. Trying to find each way that we could get an edge. definitely trying to get better.”
Part of why this Fall Camp has been so competitive is that expectations are incredibly high this season. The Seminoles can sense that this could be a special season for the program.
Lawrance Toafili and fellow running back Trey Benson are expected to be major contributors to the program in the running game this year. However, behind them, there are several excellent options for the Seminoles according to Mike Norvell.
“Caziah Holmes had a couple really big plays. I mean, he got in the open field. You could see his speed, his toughness, physicality, how comfortable out of the backfield as well. I thought he really showed up well today. CJ Campbell has a couple of nice plays as well,” Norvell said.

“So, I feel good about that running back room. We’ve got five guys that I feel are very, very capable, you know, bringing along Sam Singleton. He was limited tonight but we’ve got to get him back rolling and keep evaluating to see where he’s gonna be. A very talented young man, but I feel good about that running back room and we wanted to get them some good work tonight and I thought they showed up well.”
Mike Norvell is happy with his star players’ motivation level
One thing that Mike Norvell is excited about is the motivation level coming from the star players going into the 2023 season.
“You know, Jordan Travis, Jared Verse, those guys. Lawrance Toafili has been remarkable through this. I think Johnny [Wilson], it’s impressive to see what he’s doing, I could go through a long list of guys,” Norvell said.
“I mean, you look at the mindset of what they’re bringing. Jarrian Jones, I think I mentioned him in the scrimmage. Renardo Green. You know, I like what I’m seeing from the defensive backfield. Just the growth and the competition and the versatility that they’re showing. So, I mean, there’s a lot of guys that have played a lot of football and you feel their desire to get better, and I know it’s an easy thing to say. ‘Well, I just want to get better.’ But it’s another thing to come out when your body’s a little sore, you’re tired, and you have that day one push to go and show it. So, that’s some good work.”
