Florida State freshman centerfield DeAmez Ross is an impact player at the top of the lineup for the Seminoles. Head coach Link Jarrett said the rookie keeps getting better for his Florida State team.

Ross missed a little less than a month with a finger injury during the early part of the season but Jarrett thinks Ross is back to where he was pre-injury.

“He does a lot of the things that you would want,” Jarrett said after Tuesday’s game against Jacksonville. “He continues to get better in the outfield. He’s a solid base runner. I think he’s gaining some confidence and calmness when we give them the ability to steal bases and run. One thing in training, in practices and scrimmages, but when you’re out there in those situations and you have the chances to run the settling nature of it and how you calmly get your jumps, they become better jumps. We’re seeing that.”

DeAmez Ross had a big game against Jacksonville

In the victory over the Dolphins, DeAmez Ross went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs. The first RBI came on a first inning solo shot in the first at-bat of the game for the Seminoles. The last one game to break a 4-4 tie in the eighth inning as Florida State won the game, 6-4.

Ross is now on a 10-game hitting streak, including four double-digit hit games in his last five appearances. He is hitting .287 on the season with a .368 on-base percentage and .375 slugging percentage.

“Spraying the ball around and the short game is there,” Jarrett said. “I think that’s probably the last because of how we got injured. I think the short game is the last piece to come back. But it’s fun because the playbook’s open. You can do a lot of things. He uses the whole field, stays on the ball. It’s fun. It’s fun to watch. I’m happy seeing him back to where we saw him when this whole thing started.”

He has also yet to make an error in the outfield for the Seminoles. The team is now 19-28 in Jarrett’s first season with the club.

They have particularly struggled in conference play with a 6-18 and on the road with a 4-16 mark. Tuesday’s game featured neither of those qualities.
