After fending off questions about his future with the Notre Dame program this week at the College World Series, Link Jarrett will reportedly be named the next head coach of Florida State baseball on Friday, according to WarChant and confirmed by Pete Thamel. The Seminoles have a press conference scheduled for Monday.

The connections between Link Jarrett and Florida State are numerous, with him playing shortstop for the program from 1991-94. He played on three College World Series teams for the Seminoles during his time in Tallahassee. In addition, he is a Tallahassee native who returned there under Mike Martin in 2003 as an assistant coach.

Jarrett took over at Notre Dame in 2020 after a successful run at UNC Greensboro. He has built an 86-32 record with his team over three seasons and made a Super Regional in 2021 before the College World Series appearance in 2022. The 2020 postseason was canceled during the COVID-19 pandemic.

After getting left out of the national seeding, the Fighting Irish went to the Statesboro Regional to start the postseason. The Irish swept the regional and moved on to the Knoxville Super Regional to face No. 1 overall seed Tennessee. In the biggest upset of the college baseball season, Notre Dame stunned the Volunteers by winning two of three games and punching a ticket to the Men’s College World Series for the first time since 2002 and just the third time in program history.

Jarrett earned National Coach of the Year honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association on June 17.

Florida State has reached Omaha 23 times. It’s the most appearances for a school that does not have a national title. It is now the former Seminoles’ job to change that. Meanwhile, Notre Dame and AD Jack Swarbrick must hunt for a new head coach.

In December, Jarrett, 50, signed a contract extension with Notre Dame through the 2026 season. His salary and buyout terms in his contract are not public, however, his new FSU deal should become public in the days following his announcement and introduction. FSU fired former head coach Mike Martin Jr. on June 10. He earned $425,000 in 2022.
