Lonni Alameda compliments Oklahoma after loss
Florida State head coach Lonni Alameda knew winning two games in a row to beat Oklahoma in the Women’s College World Series would be difficult. At the same time, knowing it would be difficult doesn’t take the sting out of things for the Seminoles.
Despite that heartache, Alameda took the time after the loss to compliment the Sooners.
“Yeah, I guess first off, congratulations to OU,” Lonni Alameda said. “They’re just firing on all cylinders. It’s pretty cool. I think a lot of people were texting me throughout, like a lot of people don’t like that one team’s winning all the time. I get a little vibe sometimes of, like, take down the machine.”
Oklahoma’s pitching dominated Florida State during the series. In particular, Jordy Bahl pitched 10 innings without allowing a single run against the Seminoles. In many ways, that was the deciding factor.
“We gave our best for that, but they’re really good. Oklahoma does a really good job. They do a good job in all cylinders from recruiting to developing to meeting the NIL, development of program and team. It’s really an honor to compete against the highest level. We talked about that today,” Alameda said.
“It can be frustrating at times or it can raise our game. It’s raising our game. It’s making me a better coach. It was just really cool. Hats off to them.”

Lonni Alameda praised Kathryn Sandercock
Ahead of the Women’s College World Series, Lonni Alameda got emotional while praising ace pitcher Kathryn Sandercock.
“I think with Kat in the beginning of the year we sat down and really tried to map out innings, try to figure out how can we get Kat to be the best version of herself at this time. When I presented that to her, it meant a lot less starts, a lot less innings, a lot less comfortable situations,” Alameda said.
“For her to be the teammate that she is, to be like, Okay, I’ll do it, then start doing it. She struggled with it. She really prides herself on being really good in moments. She’s worked really hard to be the leader of the team. I’m asking her to be a leader in a different way.”
