Suwannee (Ga.) Collins Hill athlete Travis Hunter has been out of action since October 1 with an ankle injury, but the five-star returned Friday night for his team’s playoff game against Pebblebrook.

Hunter is the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2022 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Travis Hunter, Sam McCall remain steadfast with Florida State

Both Hunter and four-star wide receiver commit Sam McCall are the subject of heavy speculation given Florida State’s struggles and Norvell’s uncertain job security. Hunter visited Georgia twice in October. And Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart flew in a helicopter to watch his team play, even though Hunter has been sidelined by an ankle injury. Despite the overtures, Hunter has repeatedly said he’s committed to FSU.

He told ClemsonSports’ Joseph Hastings that things aren’t serious between him and the ‘Dawgs, though.

“I’m pretty much locked in with Florida State right now. My mind ain’t changing a little bit,” Travis Hunter said. “I’m not really keeping in touch with Georgia. I just went up there to watch a game, really. I let them do their job. Last I spoke with them was probably two weeks ago. I pretty much don’t talk with them like that.”

Hunter posted a tweet before his visit to Georgia that read: “I’m a Nole Nothing More Nothing Less I’m Not Decommitting Stop That Rumor Go Noles.”

McCall told On3’s Chad Simmons last month that he’s still solid with the Seminoles, but is keeping an eye on whether coaching changes will be coming.

“If the coaching staff stays the same, and all are back next year, then I am in. If they stay, I am staying in this class, and if they go, I probably go too.”

After starting 0-4, the ‘Noles have won four of their past six games, and barring an epic collapse, it appears Norvell will return for 2022. And if that’s the case, expect to see Travis Hunter in a Florida State uniform next season.
