Makayla Timpson wants Florida State to not let up in second half of ACC Tournament matchup vs. Wake Forest
The women’s ACC Tournament is underway in Greensboro, North Carolina in the Greensboro Coliseum. And on Thursday night, the No. 6 seed Florida State Seminoles jumped all over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons early. FSU led 37-17 at halftime and that was in large part, due to an impressive performance from Makayla Timpson.
She poured in 16 points in the first half, nearly outscoring Wake by herself. At the break, Timpson spoke with Angel Gray of the ACC Network.
Makayla Timpson on not letting up in second half
The Seminoles held the Demon Deacons to single digits in both quarters. Still, the Florida State star was not satisfied.
“I would say that’s one thing our team needs to work on as a whole. We gotta work on our defense. Also, our transition defense. We want teams to play in the half court. We’ve got to play in half court right now, getting stops, and getting out and running,” Timpson said.
She stuffed the stat sheet with 16 points and seven rebounds at halftime.
The halftime score of this year’s contest is eerily similar to last year’s ACC Tournament matchup between FSU and Wake. The Demon Deacons came back to win that one, 65-54. What do the Seminoles need to do to prevent another comeback?

“I would say we can’t let up like last year. They went on a thirty and we just scored two baskets. And they were able to win the game. So, just can’t let up and wait for them. They’re gonna try to stick around with us. We’ve gotta have great solid defense and keep scoring the ball. And keep defending them well like we’re doing right now,” Timpson said at the break.
Florida State had no such problems in the second half, finishing the game off with a 70-53 victory. FSU outrebounded Wake Forest by 46-33. Makayla Timpson finished with a double-double (22 points and 13 rebounds), the 16th of her career. The 16 double doubles are also a record for the Florida State program.
Ta’Niya Latson added in 19 points for the Seminoles in the win. She also grabbed six rebounds and dished out one assist. Florida State finished with three players in double digits. With the win, Florida State advanced to the ACC Tournament Quarterfinals, where they’ll face off against the No. 3 seed Syracuse Orange. They’ll play on Friday at 7:30 EST. The game will be televised on the ACC Network.
