Micah Posey excited to be at Florida State, compares Seminoles to Disney World

Florida State announced new pitching coach Micah Posey Monday after three years at Dallas Baptist.
Posey won the Conference USA Assistant Coach of the Year award this past season, so it was a logical move to bring the Tallahassee native home. The coach was so excited, he compared it to going to Disney World.
At least, that’s how he saw Florida State as a kid.
“My dad was super excited,” Posey said. “Him and my mom, they’ve been itching to get us closer to Tallahassee. You got two grandbabies not close to the grandma, that’s a tough thing. But he was super excited. I think, for me, growing up in Tallahassee, Florida State was kind of like Disney World to a young kid.
“It was kind of like this magical, mythical thing, almost unattainable. When I had the chance to come back, it’s almost like (you) pinch yourself a little bit.”
Posey was a Florida State fan growing up so it was easy to say yes to this opportunity. Heck, he was thrilled just to be able to put the team’s colors back on.

“I grew up pulling for Florida State,” Posey said. “This was my team. I wasn’t a big pro sports fan growing up in this town. This is kind of what you do, you support Florida State athletics. The chance to wear garnet and gold is pretty special.
“It’s still kind of weird when you’re at other schools, you make it a point not to wear another school’s stuff, so I haven’t worn this in ten years since I went to a football game so every time I put on the practice gear, I feel like I’m getting ready to go tailgating but I’m excited to be back for sure.”
Posey kept with the theme of local guys being on staff.
“To have local guys is special,” Posey said. “I think at Florida State, you don’t just want local guys though. Like you’re competing at a national level, you’re trying to win a National Championship so you want to make sure you got the right guys in the boat but the chance for two local guys to do this is special. Tallahassee baseball is special.
“Growing up, he played for coach Hogan. I played for my dad, coach Ashcroft, there’s just so many legends that have come through Tallahassee and the baseball landscape here is special from David Ross and all the way down. Yeah, it’s pretty special.”
