Micah Posey explains the importance of having coaches from around Tallahassee on FSU staff
New Florida State pitching coach Micah Posey explained the important of local coaches on the Seminoles baseball staff.
The Tallahassee native called it special to have local guys on staff. He couldn’t be more excited to be with the Seminoles after coaching at Dallas Baptist.
The baseball culture in Florida’s state capital stands out among the rest, according to Posey.
“To have local guys is special,” Posey said. “I think at Florida State, you don’t just want local guys though. Like you’re competing at a national level, you’re trying to win a National Championship so you want to make sure you got the right guys in the boat but the chance for two local guys to do this is special.
“Tallahassee baseball is special. Growing up, he played for coach Hogan. I played for my dad, coach Ashcroft, there’s just so many legends that have come through Tallahassee and the baseball landscape here is special from David Ross and all the way down. Yeah, it’s pretty special.”
As far as Posey evaluating the 2023 pitching staff and what he wants to see moving forward, he’s looking forward to the challenge.
“It’s a challenge and I’m super excited for it,” Posey said. “Everything starts on the mound. Anytime you watch a baseball game, it starts on the mound. The impact on there is always going to be great. The transfer portal, it’s a double-edged sword. When Link took the job, there’s going to be a lot of attrition with the portal, guys coming and going with the new coaching staff.

“Trying to put together a team with a month to go is tough but now you’re a year into it. We’ve positioned ourselves nicely here in the portal as far as adding some depth and some quality pieces. In the portal age, you’re not having to go get that JUCO guy and hope he develops. You can go get a proven guy, a little more plug and chug and then you can kind of get older faster.”
At this point, the Tallahassee influence could really lead to a national championship for Florida State.
“Super serious,” Posey said about his national title aspirations. “I know this program’s been chasing that for a long time and it’s kind of some unfinished business. We didn’t come here to make it to Omaha or do anything like that. The national championship is the goal. When you’re at Florida State, that’s going to be the goal in any sport really. I don’t really run from that, I kind of embrace it.
“Put your head down and go one day at a time. We tell our guys attack this one pitch at a time so I’m going to do the same thing, attack this thing one day at a time and kind of break it down and pour all I got into it. I think when you look up at the end of the day, you’ll be satisfied with where you’re at.”
