Whenever upsets occur in college football, the only people happier than the team getting the win are rival fans of the losing squad. On Saturday, it was Middle Tennessee State upsetting Miami to much of the amusement of Florida State. In fact, Rick Stockstill made sure the Seminoles got some recognition.

After the game, Stockstill gave a shoutout to Florida State, saying he knows they are “pretty excited” about the result in Tallahassee. He’s not wrong, especially since Mike Norvell got a win of his own on Saturday and is currently 4-0. Miami is now down to 2-2 in the first head of Mario Cristobal.

“I know Tallahassee, I know they’re pretty excited about the mighty Blue Raiders kicking these Hurricanes’ tails because we kicked their tails and I ain’t afraid to say it,” Stockstill said.

From the get-go, Middle Tennessee State was the better team against Miami. They were up big a times, dominating the Hurricanes. Especially coming off a brutal loss to Texas A&M on the road, you would think Cristobal would have his team up ready to play.

But the credit goes to Stockstill and his Blue Raider team. They outgained their opponent by nearly 150 yards and dominated in the passing game. Quarterback Chase Cunningham threw for over 400 yards, adding three touchdowns and just one interception.

It was a performance anybody would be proud of but the fans of the Seminoles in Tallahassee will have an extra big smile on their faces.

Even when the two ACC Florida schools are not playing each other, the rivalry runs deep. Anybody will take any kind of small victory they can. Even if it means Florida State watching Miami lose a buy game to Middle Tennessee State.
