Mike Norvell’s team had the most exciting win of the college football weekend as Florida State snuck past LSU 24-23. After a wild final few minutes of play, the Seminoles blocked an untimed PAT from LSU to hold on to the one-point victory. The effort and the ability his team showed to hang on meant everything to Norvell on Sunday.

Norvell talked about the feeling his team gave him after the thrilling finish. He spoke volumes about the effort and heart that it took for FSU to emerge victorious. They weren’t complacent with overtime and instead decided to take one home in the win column.

“It speaks to who (and) what this program is about. You are unconquered. Ultimately, at the very end, anybody could just take a step on the last play and say, ‘All right. Here we go. We’re going to overtime.’ But they still had one play,” said Norvell. “They just kept pounding their hearts…That’s what’s gonna win games. That’s what just won that game. It was heart, determination, and the willingness to give a little bit more at a time of need.”

Florida State proved its point during the course of the game. After the Tigers scored their first touchdown of the game, the Seminoles came right back afterward with a momentum-swinging drive of their own. They undoubtedly showed incredible effort throughout the game and, in the end, that effort saved it for them.

While every head coach will find corrections, Norvell knows he’ll see a lot of great things on this game’s tape as well. They showed the qualities he has wanted to see from his group and he is ready to head back to the drawing board with them this week.

“We’re gonna be able to go back and watch that film and there’s gonna be a lot of things that will probably irritate me. But I’m excited about going back to work and getting those better. You also saw some really good characteristics of this team,” said Norvell. “With the physicality, the toughness, the mindset of how they played…Guys just competed throughout.”

Florida State’s gutsy win on Sunday meant a ton to the program and their conference. Mike Norvell has been waiting for his next signature win with the Seminoles and he got it this weekend. From here, it’s about making sure all those positives translate to next week against Louisville. Keeping that overall effort and their excitement from this weekend alive would mean a ton for Florida State moving forward in 2022.
