Mike Norvell addresses the recent addition of Caziah Holmes
Mike Norvell is eager to see Caziah Holmes in the backfield for Florida State. After enrolling at FSU a couple weeks ago, the Penn State transfer joins a Seminoles running back room that already includes Treshaun Ward, Trey Benson and Lawrance Toafili.
Because he transferred so late in the year, Holmes is not eligible to play this season. However, Norvell still sees him making an impact in practice on the scout team.
“I’m really glad he’s a part of the team,” Norvell said after practice Tuesday. “He was looking for an opportunity and I think he brings another talented guy to the backfield. This year, obviously he’s not going to be eligible, but he’s one of those guys over there helping give a great look in that simulation. He’s a guy that’s got college experience.”

A four-star recruit in the 2020 class, Holmes appeared in nine games for the Nittany Lions as a true freshman. Following multiple injuries to both Noah Cain and Devyn Ford, he was forced into action last season, totaling 254 yards rushing on 56 carries.

The 5-foot-11, 211-pound running back’s most memorable performance at Penn State came during his true freshman season-finale in 2020 against Illinois. Holmes rushed for 77 yards on just 12 carries, while adding 19 yards receiving to go along with two touchdowns.
It was that type of production that led Mike Norvell to offer Caziah Holmes a chance with Florida State. So far in the two weeks that the running back has been with the team, he hasn’t regretted it.
“I appreciate the investment that he’s willing to make to bet on himself and go be a part of this and what we’re doing here,” Norvell said. “I’ve really enjoyed having him. Just a great young man. I think he really fits our program. Just coming in and hitting the ground running. Definitely excited about watching him as we get into spring ball and continuing to see him develop throughout this fall season.”
