Brock Glenn saw a lot of growth in Florida State under Mike Norvell throughout the 2023 season and it’ll set up well for the future.

Glenn had to step in due to star quarterback Jordan Travis’ injury. He did what he could, which included an ACC title win but ultimately a 63-3 loss to Georgia in the Orange Bowl.

However, Florida State will be better for the adversity the team faced after missing the College Football Playoff, according to Glenn.

“Everything this program is built on is continuing to be our best and growing, and when we face adversity to keep climbing and fight it and to learn from it,” Glenn said after the loss to Georgia.

“In the ACC Championship I had some mistakes, and I went back and I reflected, and I tried to — I did everything I could to go back and fix the things that I missed on or messed up on, tried to speed up my process.”

In a game where fans can’t look away from the final score, Glenn said there was a lesson to be learned from that game. Plus, as said pregame, Florida State was severely undermanned due to injuries and opt outs.

“I think there’s a lot to learn from in this game, as well, that I’m going to go back and reflect, and I’m just thankful for these seniors and what they’ve done for this team,” Glenn said.

“It’s a true brotherhood. I really can’t put it into words. It’s a true brotherhood. We all love each other. We’re super thankful for each other, and this program is only going to go up from here. They built this thing up. The seniors, Coach Norvell, they brought this program to the top of the top, and it’s only going to go farther from there.”

Mike Norvell at Florida State long term

When the Alabama job opened, Norvell was thought to be a candidate to replace Nick Saban. FSU didn’t even let it get that far.

Norvell received a contract extension that will net him $10 million per year over eight years. He’s locked in with the Seminoles, although Alabama made a run at him. Norvell didn’t say much about Greg Byrne’s pursuit during an interview with ESPN’s Andrea Adelson, but said the idea of continuing to build up Florida State was a factor in his decision.

“You respect the place, you respect the position,” Norvell told Adelson. “At the end of the day, it still comes down to the right fit. It still comes down to the place where you want to be, and what puts you in a position that you can pour everything you have into it.

“We’ve been able to do that over the last four years here at Florida State. There’s a lot of excitement around our program. I’m just excited to continue to build upon the foundation that’s been laid.”

Glenn seems to be right. Florida State’s future is in good hands with Norvell.
