The Florida State Seminoles are in a battle with in-state rivals, the UCF Knights in the Tallahassee Regional Final on Sunday night. The ‘Noles were struggling to get on the board and were trailing 2-0, until Cam Smith flipped things around. In the bottom of the fifth inning, he belted a two-run blast to tie the game up at 2-2.

Florida State head football coach Mike Norvell was also in attendance, and you can see him cheering for a bit in the video. It was the second home run in two days for Smith.

Once Smith woke the Florida State offense up, they got hot and in a hurry. They put up nine runs in the fifth inning to take a 9-2 lead over UCF. The Seminoles tacked on a few more, making sure they would have no doubt in the outcome, coming away with a 12-4 victory.

With the win, Florida State advances to the Super Regionals. It was their first regional title since 2019. It marks their 18th appearance in Super Regionals, the most all-time in NCAA history. The Seminoles were shut out in the first four innings on Sunday. In the first few innings, they also had plenty of opportunities where they had runners in scoring position but left them stranded on base.

Smith landed on the All-Region team to go along with six other Florida State players, Daniel Cantu, Marco Dinges, Jamie Arnold, and Carson Dorsey. Jamie Arnold won Tournament Most Outstanding Player honors.

One important stat to note for Florida State–their 22-win improvement is the largest year-over-year in program history. Last season, they missed the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 45 years. The previous best was a 13-win improvement from 2001 (47 wins) to 2002 (60).

Florida State will host the Super Regionals at Dick Howser Stadium. Those will begin on Friday, June 7th. The Seminoles will face off against the winner of the Oklahoma-UConn game in their best-of-three series. The Sooners won on Sunday night by the score of 6-4, which means the winner of Monday night’s game will move on to face FSU. Dates, times, and television will be announced early next week.
