Mike Norvell chucks Gators flag amid Florida-Florida State brawl over attempted logo plant
This weekend was when several college football rivalries collided on the field. And tempers always flare during this week every year in the sport. But this year, things were especially charged up, as there was something in the air. And we saw an extensive number of fights all across the country. And we got another one at the end of the Florida-Florida State game, after FSU head coach Mike Norvell took exception to the Florida Gators trying to plant their flag on his field.
And he grabbed their flag and chucked it away. Making sure they knew he wasn’t pleased.
It was just yet another wild and wacky ending to a game on Saturday, in what will go down as one of the wilder days in the sports’ history. And a frustrating end to a downright horrendous season for the Florida State Seminoles. FSU finished with a 2-10 overall record, one of the worst in program history.
Florida quarterback DJ Lagway completed 14 of his 22 passes for 133 yards, while tossing in two touchdowns and one interception. Gators running back Montrell Johnson had 10 carries for 99 yards and a touchdown.
The Florida defense tallied eight sacks, had 14 tackles for loss, and recovered five fumbles from the Seminoles. The Gators finished their November by knocking off ranked opponents in the LSU Tigers and Ole Miss Rebels. And they notched a win over their heated rivals on Saturday night.

Florida running back Montrell Johnson became just the sixth Gator in program history to surpass 3,000 rushing yards on Saturday night. He entered the game with 2,990 total rushing yards in his career with Louisiana and Florida.
While the season was looking bleak for the Gators at one point, they managed to finish with a 7-5 overall record while playing one of the hardest schedules in all of college football. And now they’ll await their fate in a bowl game to finish off the 2024-2025 season.
