Mike Norvell and the Florida State Seminoles are currently preparing for their Week 0 game in Ireland against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. It’s a game that Norvell knows is going to be an early test for his defense.

As he explained following a recent practice, Norvell thinks that Georgia Tech has one of the best offenses in the ACC and the country as a whole.

“I think it’s one of the better offenses in the league and probably in the country,” Mike Norvell said. “They return a lot of guys. Up front, they do a good job. They’ve got very explosive skill position players, guys that are really fast, they’re tough to tackle.”

Georgia Tech is coming off a season where the Yellow Jackets went 7-6 and won a bowl game. They were also 34th in total offense on the season, averaging 424.6 yards per game. On top of that, Georgia Tech was 43rd in scoring offense with 31.1 points per game.

“Running back is outstanding, over 1,000 yards. I think he was over six yards a carry last year. The quarterback makes everything go. Haynes [King] is a really good player,” Norvell said. “You saw his confidence grow as the season continued to go on. I think they do a good job of putting those guys in a position to be able to make plays. He’s going to be involved in the run game.”

Haynes King is now in his second season at Georgia Tech and his fifth season overall in college football. Last year, he completed 61.6 percent of passes for 2842 yards and 27 touchdowns.

“They’re going to try to stretch it out sideline to sideline, but also very physically in their approach of what they want to do,” Norvell said. “Horizontally, vertically, they’re going to try to attack everything on the field. So, it’s really going to take all 11 being on point and playing at a high level.”

Mike Norvell breaks down how Florida State is preparing for Ireland trip to open season

That opening game against Georgia Tech is going to take place in Dublin, Ireland. With that, Mike Norvell knows preparing for the travel is going to be vital.

“Just to be able to continue in the research in that and it’s one of the things that we’ve tried to do from multiple different sources. Guys who have had experience of it. But also making sure that we’re looking at a variety of different options. Guys that have done it at both levels and different things that they would implement and things that try to eliminate going down the wrong path just through others’ experiences,” Norvell said.

“So, it’s been good. We’ve spent a lot of time at least going into Fall Camp and just our continued work through those systems and what that’ll be that we’re prepared and ready to go when we get to Ireland.”
