Florida State opens its season against Duquesne in Week 0, ahead of a Week 1 trip to Death Valley to play LSU. Mike Norvell, having lost to FCS Jacksonville State in 2021, knows that these games can be difficult to play. Speaking to Paul Finebaum, he explained why he’s excited for this game and what the team’s mindset is going into the game.

“It’s great with the Week 0, getting everybody into camp a week early, being able to start that process,” Mike Norvell said. “We’re excited about being able to kickoff the season here at home, in front of our home crowd. It’s an opportunity to go out and showcase the first picture of the identity of this 2022 Florida State team.”

Florida State has a lot of new players on their roster, as they’ve used the transfer portal heavily. The Seminoles also have to put in a lot of work to turn around the program. This comes after struggling for the past few seasons. Mike Norvell thinks that they have put in the work to do exactly that.

“To be able to kick it off at home is definitely special. We know we’ve got big games throughout this season. It’s all going to progress. But, the most important thing we have to do is continue to focus on ourselves and go out there and play our best ball next Saturday,” Mike Norvell said.

There is a possibility that Duquesne acts as a trap game for Florida State. After all, the next week they have a primetime meeting with LSU. So, how do you stay focused?

“Well, you know, it’s a daily objective of ours, to every time we step on the field, whether it’s practice, scrimmage, wherever we are throughout the year is to go out and be our best,” said Mike Norvell. “To be able to communicate, to execute, to perform, to finish at the highest level that we possibly can.”

So, hypothetically, nothing should change for Mike Norvell’s squad in Week 0. They should be excited to play college football, taking every opportunity to play the game to their fullest ability.
