As Florida State heads into a season with the highest expectations in Tallahassee, Fla., in quite some time, quarterback Jordan Travis gives the Seminoles a chance to realize those expectations.

He has developed quite nicely into the kind of quarterback who can power a team into the College Football Playoffs with a few fortuitous bounces.

“He’s a tremendous quarterback who can run,” coach Mike Norvell said. “There are some plays you’re going to see, the highlight plays are always going to show up that show his running ability, but I mean he is a quarterback that can live in the pocket, that can deliver the ball accurately, push the ball down the field and his intelligence, that’s the greatest quality.”

That’s the one aspect of quarterback Jordan Travis’ game that seems to have come along the most over the last year or two.

He’s much more comfortable running the full playbook and knowing what to do with it than he was earlier on in his career. Norvell is seeing it in just about everything he does.

“You know, it’s rhythm, timing, getting more comfortable with what we’re asking him to do,” Norvell said. “We’re a rhythm based passing attack. Everyone has different ways of doing it, but coming in we wanted to establish that for Jordan.”

It took a little while for things to really materialize for Travis, but since they have he’s been incredible.

“You saw the first year he dealt with a lot of injuries and things, COVID and all the things that we had, it was hard to really see some of that put together,” Norvell said. “But through his work going into last season that started to show up.

“Whether teams were trying to blitz him or whatever it was, he was confident in where the ball was going, where it needed to go and when it needed to get there.”

Travis is back after throwing for 3,214 yards with 24 touchdowns and five interceptions last season, while also rushing for 417 yards and seven scores last season.

The quarterback Jordan Travis emerges as this fall could be the difference between a playoff run and just a very good season. Travis has that kind of potential.

“It gives you a chance to do something special because there’s going to be times where Jordan needs to be Jordan,” Norvell said. “But whenever he can live within the offense and be able to distribute the ball to the playmakers that he has and have that balance, he’s taken some unbelievable strides when it comes to that.”
