Mike Norvell explains impact of Jordan Travis on sideline during scrimmage
Jordan Travis was on the sideline for Florida State during the team’s latest practice in spring. Head coach Mike Norvell gave his team a different look where their top quarterback was “unavailable.”
Now, Travis was completely healthy. Plus, Norvell mentioned how his returning starter performed at an elite level through the first parts of spring practice.
But he wanted to keep his Seminoles on their toes a little.
“Jordan was there on the sideline,” Norvell said. “(I wanted) to kind of have him in a position where we got a chance to talk with those quarterbacks. (What Jordan was seeing) and he was doing to be able to encourage others. And you want everybody to always be available. And that is something we desire, but that’s not always the reality. So you got to have an opportunity to go out there and compete with the guys that could go. It was their time to go show up. Obviously we made Jordan unavailable today.”
Travis and unavailable is a scary proposition for Florida State fans. He performed at his best during a resurgent year for the program in 2022.
Jordan Travis sidelined during scrimmage for different look
Travis threw for 3,214 yards, 24 touchdowns, five interceptions and a 64% completion percentage. He added 417 yards on the ground and seven rushing touchdowns.

“He’s been practicing at an elite level throughout the first time practices,” Norvell said of Travis. “It was good for him to get a little bit of a different perspective. It was good to see those other guys get close to 40 reps, between 30 and 40 reps apiece. It was good. A guy’s around he doesn’t doesn’t really matter who’s taking the snap. You gotta go out there and play your best. So those are the challenges that are put in front of us and we did it.”
After Travis’ season on the field last year that helped Florida State go 10-3 and finish No. 11 in the AP Poll, Norvell received a contract extension. It’s safe to say there are big expectations in Travis’ final year on campus.
Not only could he be in the Heisman Trophy race, Florida State could compete for the ACC title based on the team’s talent. As long as the quarterback is on the field, the Seminoles have a chance but they’ll seemingly be prepared if he misses time.
