Florida State is among the 22 teams who will kick off the college football season in Week 0. Mike Norvell says it’s an honor to get to open the season and it has also provided a big opportunity for the Seminoles.

Norvell talked about what it means to be one of the programs that will open the year. Beyond the national stage, he says it’s also given Florida State extra time to prepare for the season.

“I love it. It’s adding to the sense of urgency. We started a week earlier. One of the things that was a benefit is today was the first day (at Florida State) so we were able to really get an extra week of camp where you could have the night meetings and walkthroughs. We were able to get a little bit further advanced with that extra time,” said Norvell. “When you’re going towards the first game, you’re gonna hit everything with that first group, second group and even just helping to understand with some of the newcomers.”

The Seminoles are arguably the biggest brand to be playing this weekend. Their opener against Duquesne will start a very important third season under Mike Norvell. While it’s exciting for those down in Tallahassee, it’s equally exciting for college football fans across the country. Norvell recognized that and how special it is for them to be amongst the opening weekend slate.

“You get a chance to kick off and be one of the first games in college football that has played this weekend. It’s just exciting. It’s an exciting time. I love the opportunity that (Florida State) gets each year and it’s what makes college football so special,” said Norvell. “There’s so limited opportunities that you get in a season and to be able to start it off and to be a part of that Week 0 showcase, I’m excited about it. I really appreciate the work that our players have put into it and it’s time to go play it.”

The Seminoles are massive favorites over the Dukes to start the season. Even so, it doesn’t take away from the feeling that comes with the start of a season. Eyes will be all over opening weekend and Florida State gets one of the first bites at the apple.
