Mike Norvell: Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis has 'taken his game to a new level'
Florida State head coach Mike Norvell is tooting his quarterback’s horn with confidence this spring. Jordan Travis returns for the Seminoles after helping the team reach a 5-7 finish and Norvell says he has made big leaps this offseason to take more command of the offense. His progress has allowed his head coach to give him the starters title for 2022 with little to no suspense.
“I was asked a question in one of our press conferences after practice and I think it speaks to the talent we have in that room, the growth from Tate Rodemaker, AJ Duffy, I was asked if that was something that was going to be open and available,” Norvell said on the ACC Network. “We’re always competing but I think Jordan has clearly established himself as the starting quarterback here at Florida State. I’m really excited about what he has shown and what he has done.
“You saw the steps that he took throughout the season last year and he’s really taken his game to a new level this offseason. His understanding of the offense, the finer details, and his overall control and command. Yes, he’s being pushed daily by the guys in that room but it’s not so much a competition against each other. He’s going out trying to be the best version of himself. I think he’s going a great job leading his team. That was a question that was asked and it’s a pretty firm answer.”
Travis solidifies starting role
Travis finished the season 122 for 194 passing for 1,539 yards and 15 touchdowns. He was effective on the ground as well, rushing for 530 yards and seven touchdowns. At the end of the season, Travis earned the team’s Offensive MVP award. He was one of four ACC players to pass for more than 1,500 yards and rush for more than 500 yards.
Now, Travis enters his fifth season in college football. Originally, the quarterback enrolled at Louisville before transferring to Florida State. He was just a three-star prospect coming out of high school, being the No. 59 quarterback in the 2018 class according to the On3 Consensus.

Seminoles legends will be guest coaches for Florida State spring game
The Seminoles will have plenty of star power on the sidelines for the annual spring game this year. The program announced four legends are coming back as guest coaches for the event.
Peter Boulware, Danny Kanell, EJ Manuel and Bryant McFadden will all be back in Tallahassee for the game, Mike Norvell announced Wednesday. All four played in the NFL after college and are huge parts of Florida State history.
“I am excited for the opportunity to welcome back all of our football alumni this weekend and to spotlight these four incredible individuals,” Norvell said. “They all earned individual and team success while here at Florida State, and they have all gone on to make an impact in their professional careers as well. I appreciate their commitment to this program and their passion for this university. We are going to enjoy having them around our program this weekend, and I’m looking forward to seeing them call plays during the Main Event.”
