Florida State is in need of a win in a big way. After a 4-0 start to the season, the Seminoles are now on a three-game losing streak. They’ve all come against quality ACC competition but, still, FSU needs to get back in the win column to get their season back on track. That’s exactly what Mike Norvell will be looking for this weekend when his team faces Georgia Tech.

Norvell spoke on his expectations for this weekend’s game during his press conference on Monday. He said the Seminoles need to set the tone for the rest of their season by responding well and showing improvement this weekend.

“I think every time you step on the field is that chance to really put on display this team, their response, the mindset of what we’re going to take, (and) the opportunities at hand,” said Norvell. “(Georgia Tech) is very capable…But this week is still about us. It’s about our improvement in all areas.”

The undefeated start had those in Tallahassee dreaming bigger than they were to start the season. The current losing streak has humbled them to a degree, though, and it’s now time for them to draw a line in the sand. In Norvell’s eyes, he wants to see an attention to detail that he thinks may have been lacking the last month. In his opinion, Norvell thinks he’ll see just that from his players against the Yellow Jackets.

“The importance of detail, the importance of discipline, the importance to be able to execute with our fundaments in those critical situations. That’s what we need to see,” said Norvell. “I think our guys understand that, they embrace that. This week will be an opportunity for us to go out there and push to show our best. To be able to make a statement of that’s who we are and that’s what we desire to do in our continued improvement.”

Florida State exits the bye week two games shy of bowl eligibility. With five opportunities left to get that done, winning this weekend against Georgia Tech would go a long way in calming the Seminoles down. However, this is just the next step in Norvell’s mind. It’s a big one, but he’s more focused on the improvement his team makes heading into and throughout this game than the official outcome.
