Mike Norvell lands bonus following ACC Championship win
On Saturday night, head coach Mike Norvell and his Florida State team battled in a defensive struggle against Louisville. In the end, the Seminoles were about to get a couple of key second half scores and won the game 16-6.
With that win, Florida State is one of several teams with a strong case to make the College Football Playoff. However, the game was also big in its own right, giving the Seminoles another ACC Championship win and its first since 2014. On top of that, Mike Norvell also earned himself a massive bonus following the game.
For winning the ACC Championship Game, Norvell was given a $150,000 bonus. That brought his total in bonuses for the season to $500,000.
Considering the situation that Mike Norvell took over in Tallahassee, it’s been a phenomenal job. He’s built the program back up, using a blend of high school recruiting and the transfer portal. Now, in his fourth season with the Seminoles, Florida State is at the doorway of the College Football Playoff.
If Florida State were to make the College Football Playoff, then Norvell would be in line for another $100,000 bonus.
At the same time, there is debate about whether or not the Seminoles belong in the Playoff. With the injury to quarterback Jordan Travis, the offense is clearly hampered. At the same time, an unbeaten Power Five champion has never missed the Playoff. For Norvell’s part, he knows the team has done everything it’s capable of doing.
“I’ve got absolute confidence in that we’re gonna get our opportunity. As we sit there and you go through the journey there are plenty of talented teams out there that obviously get their chance, too, but you’ve got to go do it on the field. That’s what makes college football so special. This team, every chance that we’ve got, whether it’s home away, the adversity we’ve had to overcome — they’ve just responded and we’ve done what is necessary because it still comes down to winning the game,” Norvell said.

“We’ve taken advantage of each of each of those opportunities to be 13-0, to be a really special football team that shows that grit, shows that resilience and they put it on display once again last night against a top 15 opponent. They were able to accomplish being the undefeated ACC champion and believe that we have earned that opportunity.”
Jordan Travis reveals how 2023 team represents culture change within Florida State
Jordan Travis’ season ended with a catastrophic injury. However, he’s still incredibly proud of this Florida State team, arguing the 2023 team under Mike Norvell changed the program’s culture.
“The change that Coach Norvell has made within this program is absolutely insane. The standard has changed for sure. I feel like that’s what we need in our program is a standard of how you do anything — it should be how you do everything. How you treat the janitor should be the same way how you treat the AD and the president of the school. I feel like that’s this team really, really represents that,” Travis said.
“We represent who Coach Norvell is as a person every single day. We always have smiles on our face. We’re blessed to wake up are blessed to represent Florida State University at the end of the day. It’s one of the best universities in the world. … We’re really focused on everything [Mike Norvell] is doing and doing everything right.”
