Mike Norvell on Florida State disaster: 'I apologize, I will be better'
Mike Norvell can make promises and apologies to Florida State, but the results speak for themselves. And he knows that.
The Seminoles are 1-9 this season, just one year removed from a 13-1 year with an ACC Championship Trophy. Injuries, struggles, roster turnover, firings, you name it. Everything has gone wrong for Norvell and Florida State.
But, he’s facing the music and promised to fix it.
“(The light at the end of the tunnel is) coming,” Norvell said on Outta Pocket with RGIII. “Ultimately speak victory. I mean, because our words are powerful. At the end of the day, they want to see these young men and this program be successful. That’s what they want. Allow your words to show that. You can say whatever you want. This is not like, ‘oh, please stop, no.’ I love the passion of our fan base. I’ll say it with you. It’s not been good enough. You continue to speak the good of who we are, of where we are, of where we’re going. That’s what we can control as a fan base, as individuals.
“So, I mean, I apologize. I have apologized that the record is what it is, right? You know, because I’m responsible for every single thing and I own that and I will be better. That record doesn’t have to define you right? The response will define you. Go be the best you can be. If you can do that, great things will happen. That’s what I would encourage anybody, you know, especially this wonderful fan base I get to represent.”
Norvell is 32-26 as head coach of Florida State and was 31-17 coming into the year. Pretty good but this year certainly brought a sour taste to Seminole fans.

When Peter Boulware suited up for Florida State, the team was consistently at the top of the college football world. The former linebacker offered cautionary advice to Norvell moving forward as he aims to clean up this mess.
“I hope that FSU Football picks two veteran proven coordinators. Now is not the time to try an unproven up and comer,” Boulware tweeted on Sunday afternoon.
Florida State is back in action saturday at 1:30 p.m. ET against Charleston Southern, a game the Seminoles should logically win.
But the rivalry game against Florida on November 30 could show all flaws in front of a national audience. Fans might be praying for 2025 to get here now.
